Glossary of game theory terms.

Asynchrony

In a repeated game it is often assumed that players move simultaneously at predefined time intervals. However, if some players update their strategies at different time intervals, then the game is asynchronous. For example, one restaurant may update its menus once a month while a neighboring restaurant reprints menus daily. Then, the pricing game faced by the restaurants is asynchronous.
